Episode 74 Recap

I woke up this morning to an instant message from a friend which read "omggg wye oak is awesome liveee". Pissed and still tired I got ready for the day and made a note to see them in the near future. After checking the R5 website, I am making birthday plans for Philadelphia, PA because they're playing Johnny Brenda's on April 15th, two days after Acid Mothers Temple at the same place. Maybe I'll just move. But then I wouldn't be able to provide you all with the best Desert Rock every Sunday night. Decisions decisions.

This week we took a listen to the new The Grand Astoria album Omnipresence. As I said, it's a departure from previous releases. I'll have a full review sometime this week as well as old Dr. Love segments.

The only thing more hip thrusting than tonight's show...

As the snow and ice continue to remind us that there are no redeeming qualities in nature, it is nice to know that the power of technology can bring us together every week. At the risk of sounding lame I'm going to follow that up with something awesome, tonight's artist focus is the new album from Russian psyche-heads, The Grand Astoria.

With each week we creep closer and closer to my yearly Valentine's Day Show where, once again, Dr. Love will take you questions. Feel free to write in. Unfamiliar with the good doctor's work? I will be uploading advice sections from years past.

You know, he's not only an excellent love doctor but he is in peak physical condition, here is a video of his trainer.

See you tonight at 10!

Episode 73 Recap

I went kind of Satanic this week because only the fiery pits of hell can keep me warm in lieu of this terrible cold spell that that bitch Mother Nature has cast upon North Eastern Pennsylvania. News that the next Queens of the Stone Age album is in the early stages came out this week on the FasterLouder site. Apparently the album will be "Bluesy", which is like saying the next Foo Fighters album is going to be "Yelly". Of course nothing has come out of the Queens camp as of late that makes me mark a date on my calendar. This also goes for the self titled re-release that is coming out sometime, maybe March?

Coachella is 81 days away and the lineup is more than impressive this year. Death From Above 1979 is reuniting for the show and hopefully a tour. Rumors of bands like the Queens and Atlas Sound have been circling the internet, but nothing solid yet. Here's the official list.

Is anyone planning on going? I would love to have a live report from Sunday night! If you're interested, please contact me. Or if you are an organizer, I'd be more than willing to be flown out to cover the event, just give me two weeks notice.

Here's this week's demonic playlist.

1. Eagles Of Death Metal - Kiss the Devil
2. Death From Above 1979 - Little Girl
3. Sleep - The Suffering
4. Pentagram - Evil Seed
5. The Sword - How Heavy This Axe
6. The Atomic Bitchwax - Dishing Out A Heavy Dose Of Tough Love
7. earthlings? - Reaper (Don't Fear This Child)
8. Bongripper - Satan *
9. Melt Banana - If it is the Deep Sea, I Can See You There
10. Hater - Who Do I Kill?
11. Torche - Amnesian
12. Goatsnake - Innocent
13. Freedom Hawk - Universal
14. Gay Witch Abortion - Church Buffet
15. Skooma - Rainbolt

The only thing more intense than tonight's show...

In a week where we found out that Joshn Homme died then came back to life and Death From Above 1979 has also come back to life, I'm going to play some pumped up stuff. We also learned that the Queens of the Stone Age self titled re-release will come out on Domino Records sometime in March, though I'm going to believe it when I see it.

It's cold out, why not nestle by the radio and raise your body temperature with some warm fuzzy tones tonight at 10, or some cocaine.

Episode 72 Recap

It feels so good to be back playing some of the best music on the radio. I'd like to thank everyone for tuning in and remember to telly our friends. I'm getting together some big plans for this season so you're going to want to tune in and keep up on the blog. I hope everyone had a good holiday season and got some music in their stockings. Me, I saw some great music. The band Skooma is back together and I'm looking forward to some new jams from them. They'll defiantly be getting some airtime this season. Same goes for Heliotropes who are back in the studio. 2011 is looking to be another great year in Desert Rock.

There may also be some great local concerts this spring. Rumors of an East Coast Masters of Reality tour are hitting the internet. That coupled with confirmed shows by Gene Ween in Harrisburg and Wye Oak in Philly are going to take a chunck out of my gas budget.

Here's this weeks playlist.

1. Melt Banana - Like a White Bat in a Box, Dead Matters Go On
2. Wye Oak - Mary Is Mary
3. Kyuss - Writhe
4. Heliotropes - Early In The Morning

The only idea worse than another season, which starts tonight...

What am I talking about, it's a great idea. As I am writing this, I am completely unprepared, unshowered, and lounging in my robe thinking to myself, "How can I link the title to the show and the video". I should really be thinking about how I'm going to blow minds and how I'm about to kick off an unprecedented 4th year of It Came from the Desert. I don't know who is a bigger sucker; me or the VMFM management?

Luckily for me, I'm locked into another 15 weeks where I can "find myself" and play the best Desert/Stoner/Psych/Doom rock on the radio. So tune in tonight! Click the VMFM 91.7 link on the right side of the page around 10pm Eastern and listen live. I know I say this every season, but I hope to have more interviews, reviews, and exciting stuff this season.

If not for me, than for this guy.

Awwww Yeah: New Season starts Sunday

ICftD will be returning to the airwaves this Sunday, January 16th from 10pm - Midnight on VMFM 91.7. What does this mean for you? Well, you can enjoy another 15ish weeks of the longest running show on VMFM and the heart of Desert Rock in Pennsylvania. What does this mean for me? I stay sane. The last month has been void of my weekly satanic ritual that I conduct in the radio studio which consists of exotic insense, blood of a lamb, a virgin, a Four Loko, and dirty magazines, I feel the powers of the Dark Lord already leaving my blacked heart.

What's going on this season? I would be a liar if I told you I knew, since I was unaware of the status of the show until about 10 minutes ago. Since last year, I have been treating every season as if it was the last, this means that I will be working to make it the best one yet. How can I out do Chris Goss, Pete Stahl, and a fresh new album every week? Beats me. I guess it's time to start e-mailing musicians and agents to score some interviews and that sweet sweet payola.

I hope you all join me every Sunday night for another exciting season of It Came from the Desert, and TELL YOUR FRIENDS.
